Resolved Question: How do you securely park a Jeep CJ without a top or doors?

My grandpa has an old Jeep CJ that is pretty beat up, but my pal and I are repairing it. We are pretty close to being able to pass the safety inspection and getting it legal. But...there isn't a top or doors. So, if we were to steer it anywhere, how do you safely park it? It is a manual transmission, so it would be easy enough to pop it in to neutral and push it away. Granted, the steering wheel does lock...but that just doesn't seem like enough protection. Should I receive some sort of switch hidden below the dash that I have to flip for the ignition to connect to the battery or something? Or would that just be going overboard?

Resolved Question: Does the Geo company make good cars and trucks? They used to make the Tracker?

I look usually the Geo Tracker and a smaller car can't remember its name.I nice of like the tracker as it reminds me of a CJ Jeep.Anyways I look them sometimes at car lots or whatever, but since I never owned one I don't know much about them other than just the looks. Are they reliable and easy to work on? I ment it looked like a smaller Jeep to me.They nice of look ok,but I was wondering if they are worth the investment.Since I heard they receive good gas mileage.

Resolved Question: Is it possible my valve is stuck on my '86 AMC 5.4L V8?

I have a 1978 Jeep CJ-7 with an '86 AMC 5.4L V8 engine from a Wagoneer below the hood. It was starting to receive a little bit of an oil leak (I know, it's a miracle it didn't leak before). I took it to a local store to receive the oil changed and asked them to add Lucas Oil Stabilizer. I used to use it in my Chrysler I6 4.0L in my '95 XJ and it worked great. The guys at the store forgot to let the engine idle for 5 minutes per the instructions, but I assumed they had and proceeded to steer home. I live at the top of a hill where they highway has a gentle grade up, a distance of about 1 mile. By the time I made it to the top of the hill, the engine was sputtering and shaking. I nursed it the relax of the way home, about 1/2 mile, and parked it in my garage. Oil leaked out of it from where the pressure had forced it through the existing leak. Now when I start the engine up, it idles roughly and won't stay running unless I gas it. It also backfires frequently. A pal of mine that has worked on a few cars said he thought it sounded like a stuck valve. I don't want to have to tear into the block if I don't have to, and I don't have tools to compress the valve springs when I put it back together. 1) Does this sound like the issue or does anyone else have any suggestions? 2) I had the idea that I'm going to dump the oil and flush it with transmission fluid (I've tested it by washing my hands with it after working on my XJ every day and it gets the grease and oil right off, better than commercial grit soaps), run the CJ for a few minutes to let the fluid break up the gunky Lucas Oil Stabilizer deposits, and then drain it out again and put oil back in. Any comments on if this would work or not? Thanks in advance! :)

Voting Question: do I have the right manifold?

I have a 1973 jeep j2000. It has a 360 V8. I was changing the 2 barrel carb to a 4 barrel carb. While doing this I am trying to install a Edelbrock performance manifold. When I put it on the first time it was tough. Seems like the screws didn't want to go right in. After a little finesse they went in, but only after pulling out the valley pan gasket and not using the front and rear manifold gaskets, just using RTV. That worked for about a week then it started leaking again. After further examination of the manifold that I bought I noticed the edelbrock manifold only had 3 water ports. The manifold I pulled off had 4 and the engine has 4. Could this be why the manifold fits but only with a little coaxing? Seems like it should just bolt right on. Could the Manifold I purchased be for a jeep CJ or jeep 2500 instead? Is there a difference?

Resolved Question: question about my jeep?

i have a 1997 jeep wrangler with the 2.5 i4. i always wanted a bronco, but i got a jeep instead and i adore it. the only problem is, its slow, has only 115-120 hp, and... you receive the picture. what i want to do is tug a 4.0 i6 out of an old cj or wrangler at the junkyard and put it in mine. but i really dont know to much about it. i know jeeps are pretty universal, fixing mines a breeze. but what do i have to do if i do this? can i use the same transmission?, i guess the question is, what do i have to replace if i do this? i would wish that the transmission would be the same, but im not sure (4 spd car). if not, i suppose it wouldnt be too much of a task since the jeep it was in previously probably still has its transmission... also, how much do you think it would cost? thanks, any help is greatly appreciated.

Resolved Question: I have a 1984 Jeep Cj-7 and my Carburetor needs to be fixed, should I sell it?

So here is the situation, I'm 17, I inherited a 1984 Jeep Cj-7 from my grandpa. It was a gift so it would hurt him if I were to sell it, however I have already had to replace the fuel pump, master cylinder, and do some major electrical work (which there is still more of to do). Now my carb isn't functioning properly and it's time to rebuild it (its also a webber carb, which was added on five or six years ago, so it would be difficult to change every of the modifications put in place to install that original stock carb that was there in the first place). I also need to drop my fuel tank and clean it, because the car sat around for five years with fuel in the tank. I have heard that CJ's are worth money and can be quite collectible, and gain in value as they receive older. My dad is also a mechanic but it is still expensive for him to spend time fixing my car when he could be working. I am also going to college in 4 months in San Francisco, and if the jeep were working I would still have to leave it at home, because it costs to much money to park it in the city. So basically my question is: Should I hold on to the jeep and fix it, or is it a good time to sell it and receive a car that doesn't have so many issues, and how much does it cost to rebuild a carburetor?

Resolved Question: Is it true that a soft top for a '91 Jeep Wrangler, Renegade is not compatible with full doors?

I have a 1991 YJ Jeep Wrangler Renegade with full doors and can't find a top for it. I have already ordered 2 tops and it was the wrong one! My jeep has FULL DOORS and original factory hardware. It also has an extended tailgate, about 12" longer than the CJ models. The first top I ordered was for half doors, and the second one was too short, meant for a jeep that has no space behind the back seat, whereas mine does. One Jeep parts dealer told me that a Jeep like mine in the same year doesn't have full doors, but I have seen a couple others like it. I have been told my Jeep is somewhat rare but arrive ON, theres gotta be a top that fits it. please help!!! Below is a link to a photo that better illustrates the doors and extra space in the back::: http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh67/slinkstercool_photos/402990.jpg Im pretty sure its not that uncommon for these Jeeps to have a little extra space behind the back seat. Resolved Question: Driving with no doors on a jeep wrangler in PA... is it legal?

I have two related questions here... First, I've seen other jeep wranglers every over driving with no doors in the summertime and I have been debating whether or not to do this for a while. Is this actually legal? I possess a 2002 wrangler, so I know that it was built with half steel doors... so that would be considered removing a part of the vehicle that was built by the manufacturer. Unlike what a CJ might be. Second. Removing the doors will obviously remove my sideview mirrors... does anyone know what the laws for this are in PA? Do I need to buy a relocation kit for my mirrors just to go without doors for a few days at a time? If it is illegal to ride with no sideview mirrors in a wrangler, do you think local cops would consider this enough to tug me over? Overall, I'm just asking for people with Jeeps in PA that would have knowledge on this, I've decided I want to finally take my doors off after every these years, and I cannot find any solid information on our laws online... Thanks ahead of time.
