Resolved Question: 1967 jeep cj-5 brake problems?
My '67 CJ-5 has a problem. I need to fix the brakes, but the right rear wheel drum will not arrive off no matter I have tried. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I heard that heating it with a blowtorch and then cooling it rapidly would break it free, but I'm leary about trying that.

Resolved Question: Marine speakers for my Jeep?
Alright I'm doin jus a little research for my Project 1979 CJ-5 Jeep. Now anyone with a jeep will tell you that ya can't always keep every the water out of your Jeep. Plus bein proud to be country make mud look so much more fun in a Jeep! Now I'm a big music lover and cant stand that i don't even got a radio!!!! So i've been wiring and finally have some music but now its time to add some good speakers. I'm looking into Marine Speakers for the water issue i was talkin bout. Now here's the Question. How water resistant are marine class speakers? Will they handle the mud and and water of off-roading? I'm also making tiny speaker pods with cup holders for the back seat so will they also be kid resistant? I was looking at some JBL speakers because that's the audio company I've always bought from and never had any problems with!

Resolved Question: CJ 7 jeep with a cracked tub, fix or replace?
A stock 1985 CJ7 renegade jeep was purchased about a year ago and while out in the mountains it flipped over. I decided to fix the jeep and am taking everything apart little by little with the thought of turning it from stock to an actual rock climber, and avoid the flips..(it was really dumb, they were going slow but caught a rising edge at an angle, the driver thought it was a good idea to attempt a turn at this point and yep, here we are.) I just barley started the breakdown and while i was below the jeep i noticed that below the drivers side there is like an L shaped bracket that is used to bolt the tub onto the chasis. that part is half way cracked down, and from the looks of it it seems to have broke before, was sodered back and then broke again in the same place. is this something i could receive a pro to fix or will it be something to worry about? this is my first repair BTW and i will be using pros to do the stuff that well should be done by pros.

Resolved Question: What vehicle would be a good alternative to Jeep Wrangler; wanting good gas mileage, no doors, 4x4?
I was wanting a Wrangler, CJ, YJ, whatever, for a summer commuter vehicle and part-time off-road fun. I have been discourage from getting the Jeep because even the 4 cylinder with manual transmission doesn't receive much better gas mileage than my 98 z71. So, what would be some similar vehicles with great gas mileage so that I could run around with no doors this summer?

Resolved Question: Where to find a studio max model of a cj-5?
I am looking for a cj-5 high poly(detail) max file of a cj-5 jeep(wrangler). I am looking for a cj(post ww1) non flat fender. From 1955 to 1984 body style. To be more specific 1964 to 1971 body style but the only major difference is the windshield until 1976. I am looking for accuracy in both the exterior and interior. This is not for animation this is for design and I will be using this model as a mock up for products that will go on my and others jeeps. For some reason I am having a terrible time finding a high poly file for this. yj wranglers are coming out my ears. So are the flat fenders and other "war" jeeps. If need be I will continue making my model in max but would much rather(from a time perspective it will take me at least another month) find a model to use. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Resolved Question: Need a quick, sporty and functional vehicle for under $35k.. where should I look?
I'm in the market for a new car. My old car isn't going to die today, but I'm going to need to make the purchase in the next few months. I'm looking for a quick vehicle, prefer a sedan but I would consider a coupe or SUV/crossover, with the functionality to be able to transport my two 80-lb. dogs. I prefer something with a v6 or v8, since I'd like to have at least 250HP (although I would consider a smaller, turbocharged engine). I want something sporty, but not necessarily a "sports" car. I steer a Jeep Cherokee right now, so while I don't need a hatchback necessarily, I don't want to lose every the functionality of my current vehicle. I've driven, so far, the 2010 VW GTI (ok performance, too tiny for my 6'4" boyfriend), the 2011 Camaro (v6 was weak, 6.1 liter is nice, but the interior of the car sucked), the 2010 Challenger (pretty impressed by the 5.7 liter and the car in general), the Audi A4 (nice car, no performance) and the Honda Crosstour (really liked the car, really fit my needs, but questionable styling). I occasionally switch out my other car (Jeep CJ-7) with my family members to steer my dad's 2009 Pontiac G8 (very impressed) and 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee (v8 model, also impressive). I'd like to find something as responsive as these vehicles... just not sure I want to find myself driving the same car as my family members. I'm a car girl, so don't hold back. I'm trying to narrow down my options as to what I should be test-driving. Can be Euro, Asian or American. Prefer new or newer-model used. This will the the first car I've purchased, and I've waited a long time to do it, so I'd like to reward myself with something sweet. Not a rental car. Thanks!

Voting Question: How do I convince the owner selling the vehicle to take my price?
We want to buy a 1983 CJ-7 that is beefed up. He is advertising for 6500 but said he would be willing to take cash this weekend for 6250 because he wants to buy a mustang here in town. My finance went down to the town 2 hours away from where we live to test steer it. He loves it but of course since it's old, it has some problems. It's got a lot of awesome features like a 6 inch lift, 35in bighorn tires, brand new leather seats, vinyl flooring, NO RUST ect. but it's got some leaks and needs a new carbourater. Everyone we have talked to said that 6500 is way too much. We got pre-approved for a 4000 loan and offered him that up front this weekend. Of course he said no. He said that he has a guy that is willing to take his 6500 price, he is just waiting for his tax return to arrive in. Is he b.s'ing us? We asked to take it to a mechanic to look exactly whats wrong with it and he turned his nose up with the excuse, "well, you know it's an old vehicle, of course it's not going to run like you're friends nice truck over there." So we aren't comfortable paying that much if we aren't sure what is every wrong with it. He said he won't go below 6000. We really like this Jeep and have seen alot around town that are either WAY more expensive because they are totally beefed up, or they are way less and need a lot of work. So this Jeep is a good middle for us without having to steer 6-8 hours away to look other Jeeps for sale. We are thinking about trying again for 5000 seeing what he says and if not, offering 5500. This is our first time to buy a vehicle, we just wanted some suggestions...like, should we pursue this purchase? Do you think he would take our second offer? Should we just back down and keep looking? I don't know....

OK so basically I want either an older Jeep wrangler or an old CJ-7 to just have fun with and do some off roading. Now the problem is, is that whenever i look one a wrangler for sale they either have high mileage 100k+ or are 4 cylinder powered ones as well as the vast majority being stick shifts. Resolved Question: 1979 Jeep CJ7 Purchase?
I'm thinking of trading my 89 YJ (With 89 Cherokee FI 4.0) in for a 79 CJ7 with a 304 V8. The CJ comes with hardtop/soft top has less than 100,000...one spot of rust on the rear where they every rust...car Tranny. I'm wondering what things I should look for & common problems to be aware of. I'm mostly worried about the car Tranny as I'm not a big fan. The carb is stock and its running on 31 AT tires right now. I want to receive a consistent 12 mpg out of the motor, so any tips on how well/best upgrades are appreciated. My YJ is a wiring nightmare...and I want something I can take to any store...which the cj I certainly can. I just use jeeps for fun and dont commute, so mileage isn't a huge problem. Thanks in advance! Oops, sorry let me clarify. The YJ I have has a XJ(cherokee FI 4.0) in it. I don't possess both. It does sound like I'm better of holding on to the YJ....but its a wiring nightmare! Thanks for the input! Also, I've done some research and it sounds like the CJ is every wheel steer (Quadratrac) how many mpg can I expect with that?
